Introduction

In 2022, ARTHUR Publishing House launched an initiative called the "Reader’s Map for Vacation" to foster a love of reading among school children during the summer break.

The goal was to encourage young readers to engage with a curated selection of 20 books over 12 weeks, creating a fun and interactive way to promote literacy and continuous learning outside the classroom.

Challenges

Making children read during the summer break is not an easy task to accomplish, but ARTHUR thought their aim through three phases.

Engagement - Finding a way to make reading appealing to children during their vacation time, with interactive gameplay.

Tracking progress - Providing a system for users to easily track the books they read, so they can leave some for later and be reminded.

User interaction - Allowing users to create personalized reading lists and note down their progress and share it with others online.

"OPTI has been our main partner in web software development, web maintenance, and hosting for our business. We recommend their skills in software development as our requests and input are quickly translated into results, thus having a short launch-cycle."
- Bianca Chirică, Editura ARTHUR

Solution

To address these challenges, OPTI developed an interactive online platform.

Enrolment and objectives

  • 20 books to read in a period of 12 weeks.
  • Anyone can enroll in the campaign to note down the books as they read them.
  • Users can also create a reading list with the books intended to read.

The project won the Silver Award for Excellence, next to "Netflix & MSL The Practice".

Both are included in the "Culture, Art" category at Romanian PR Award XX.

This project is an excellent example of gamification applied to education. By turning reading into a game with clear goals and progress tracking, we significantly increased children's engagement over the holiday, demonstrating that marketing can also serve a powerful educational purpose
